LAST CIRCULAR
St. John’s International Conference on Education 2010 will be held from Thursday, June 24th to Saturday, June 26th, 2010 in Prague – the main session (June 25th – 26th), and in St. John College, Svaty Jan pod Skalou 1, 266 01 p.o. Beroun – the opening ceremony (June 24th) and the pre-conference symposium on Dao De Jing (June 23rd – 24th).
The special aim of the conference is to facilitate communication and exchange of experience between technologically and culturally expanding Far East on the one hand and the European
Union (and the United States) on the other. The leitmotif of our conference will be new approaches to the process of cognitive, environmental, and intercultural education, beginning from pre-school
education up to the citizens of an intercultural information society.
Topics include: Pre-conference symposium New Questions on the Old
Master: Does Dao De Jing Need to
be Re-interpreted?
A specialized symposium on Dao De Jing will take place as an independent part of the conference “Education and Sustainable Life”, Prague & St. John under the Rock, Czech Republic, June 22–26, 2010. The symposium will be held on June 22–24, 2010 at St. John’s College near Prague. It will concern archeological, historical, philosophical, and religious contexts of Dao De Jing on the one hand, and the textual analysis and hermeneutics of the first nine chapters of Dao De Jing and the possibilities of its alternative translation on the other.
The organizing committee has an intention to organize a similar symposium every year (or every second year) as a space for sharing interpretative results from “case studies” of sequences
of 9 chapters of Dao De Jing. There is a challenge to delve into archetypal meanings of some archaic Chinese characters or their compounds,
such as The interest to participate in the symposium was confirmed by some leading experts in the field of Taoist studies, such as Michael R. Saso (University of Hawai, U.S.A)

The general goal of the conference will be to provide an opportunity for sharing ideas on cognitive, environmental and intercultural learning, starting with pre-school age and up to open universities and universities of the third age. The conference will provide many opportunities for scholars, academicians and professionals in education and related fields to interact with members inside and outside of their own particular disciplines.
